After blogging about iCloud ,I thought that, just like any other technologies iCloud also must be having certain problems associated with it. After a little research I found out following issues in using iCloud.
First problem is excess use of data connections. iCloud is likely to use more bandwidth than iPhone or any other devices. Pushing digital content to multiple devices at the same time is much more bandwidth intensive than downloading maps, emails or playing games.
Currently user downloads the songs, videos and other data on the computer and then synchronizes that data to his other devices by plugging them in to computer. It is little inconvenient, but user downloads data or digital content only once. But iCloud pushes the digital content to multiple iCloud connected devices simultaneously over internet. This means, data need to be downloaded is amount multiplied by number of devices you have. Now if we multiply this by lakhs of people using iCloud we face huge bandwidth problem and it also puts a lot of stress on already stressed data exchange infrastructure. Such an issue is to be tolerated to just save few minutes from plugging devices into computer.
Second issue is that user loses the control over the data he has uploaded to iCloud. If you store your purchased digital data in iCloud, it means that Apple has control over what you can view, listen or access. Availability of service is to be taken care of. It is also not sure whether we can upload our own data, songs ripped from cd or the data purchased from some other sources and store it on iCloud.
Third issue, most common but essential to be considered that is security risk. Because iCloud is just another online data service that stores private information from lakhs of people.
So these are the problems associated with Apple iCloud. I will come back to you soon with another brand new interesting article, till than just wait....

hmmm you get to sync data from icloud simultaneously to many devices unlike the computer where at max only two can sync at a time. How is that a disadvantage? The only loophole if you wanna call it for the sake or argument is the bandwidth, which will be increased with increased users. Apple's not like VTU :-P ;-)
2) you talk about the control over data. Well, if your computer crashes, your data goes down with it. For data to vanish on an icloud would mean the cloud itself crashing whose probability of crashing is may be 1:100000 at the least.
The biggest con i can think of is the cost and lack of giving more control to the users to copy the data of their desire which is not made that simple in icloud.
PEACE!
My dear friend varun, usually internet service providers restrict the bandwidth that can be used by the user.Consider for example 50GB is the max bandwidth one can use from a service provider in a month,if the user uses iCloud rather than traditional way of synchronization ,he will be downloading the same data multiple times for different devices.
Ex: One movie(50mb) is there in iCloud and assume u got 3 devices, to sync that movie in each device, data will be downloaded separately for each device. You will be downloading 150mb instead of 50mb.If you use the service regularly it will lead to the completion of 50GB available bandwidth before the usual period......I hope my explanation cleared ur doubt.
mahalingesh sry to say this..........hahaha....your thinking is accordance with indian environment ....this is not for us(indians) wher even a current is a problem.....hahaha i think u don't know anything about apple infrastructure...( u just thinking apple company as normal company like infosys,wipro,tcs....etc)...do u know what encryption standard they use..., what numerous technologies they have.....,what capacity they have....it is not a normal company....apple=microsoft + intel.....dude..
icloud is online service i know....it is not a vtu website or our passport website....hahaha
I have just framed some general possible problems here, which may or may not rise real serious issues.
I know that comparing infy and wipro kind of companies with apple would be like comparing our collge to IIT's
@maha: that 50 mb which you are talking is just for one device man. If you connect two devices to the comp, you still will be syncing 100mb. You basically are replicating a piece of data onto all the devices connected to the comp. If its one device-50mb, if 2, then 100 mb,3=150 mb..Its effectively the same. With icloud, you'll just have a intermediate source from which you sync. Thats the only diff. Download or copy or sync or whatever you wanna call it, its the same amount regardless of whether its icloud or connecting to the comp. More the devices, more the replication in both cases
I agree, in traditional way v do replicate the data, but if u retrieve multiple copies of same data it will consume more bandwidth.
To download 50mb movie and sync for 3 devices, iCloud uses 150mb but tradtional way uses 50mb of available bandwidth
yeah! but in the US, bandwidth is hardly a concern. You get allotted a lot.. It might experience difficulty when perhaps every single user is accessing the cloud for purposes on all of his devices.. That situation is just hypothetical. highly unlikely .. N where did my prev ccomment vanish ? :-OOOOOOOO
Yes I agree, my research says some firms like AT/T charge for usge above a set limit like 100 or 250GB per month. Some firms like comcast has limit of 250GB and gives a warning on first exceed of limit and cancels ur service on second warning within an year. I agree you get too much of bandwidth from service providers ,no need to worry about it, but still bandwidth could be saved with traditional method. But evlution is the nature of world....changes are needed to make life much and much better
